The University of Calicut is located in Thenjipalam, Mallapuram district, kerala covering approximately 400 acres of rural land. It was enacted in the year 1968 and which later administered by Dr. M.M. Ghani in the year 1970. It is the second university established in Keral with a primary aim of promoting research particularly in reference to the arts, culture and technology.

About Calicut University
It holds several off campus centers in its neighboring districts where it primarily acts as an exam administrator of its 250 affiliated colleges. It has extension centers located at Thrissur, Vatakara and Calicut so it can further extend its services to more students within this region.
The University of Calicut serves as home for several scientists and scholars who serves as the University’s main teachers and lecturers. It is currently upgrading its facilities in order to aid the demands of the students. Some of these improvements include modernization of laboratories, the improvement of the University’s internet facility and the computerization of the University Examination.
At present it has 304 colleges located in the districts of Kozhikode, Wayanad, Thrissur, Malappuram and Palakkad. It serves almost 70,000 students which is equivalent to 2.75 lakh students every year that are being supported by the State Government.
One of the significant places in the University is the Student’s Trap. It is strategically located at the C.H. Mohamed Koya Central Library and was developed and constructed with a hope that it will encourage students to congregate and have informal exchange of ideas. In the evening, it acts as a venue for several cultural functions which involves colorful, musical and rhythmic artistic performance.
The University Park holds several souvenir and book shops, cafeteria and cyber spot and is one of the favorite hang-outs of students and visitors. The Book Shop serves as a haven for book enthusiasts. It is operated by the University Publication Division and offers cultural and historical type of posters and souvenirs at attractive discounts. It also serves as the meeting place of the University Book Club members where students informally engage in readings and book talks. On the other side, internet lovers will enjoy their stay at the University’s Cyber Spot. It provides cyber services at a very minimal amount.
